High Water Pressure Problems

HIGH WATER PRESSURE

With new construction happening all over the metroplex, high water pressure for homes has become a problem. City water pump stations must increase the water pressure to reach newly completed construction sites. This occurs late evening or early morning hours when most people are not using water. This is a problem for homes with an old or missing

PRV (pressure-reducing valve).

To determine your home's water pressure, purchase a water pressure gauge from Home Depot, as shown to the left. Connect it to a hose bib and monitor

it over 24 to 48 hours.

Note: the red needle indicates the highest

water pressure reading. This is a non-warranty issue.

See Warranty or Questions

Note: Maximum water pressure to a

house should be around 75psi.

Most houses with this problem have 150 to 200 psi at night.

PRV location

If you have a PRV it should be located in the front yard flower bed inside a plastic valve box. If you don't have a valve box in the flower bed then your house is built without a PRV. Since 2015 all homes have been required to have a PRV.

The water pressure entering a home must not be above 80psi.

City water supply pressure is around 125 psi to 200 psi.

Culligan Water Filters

All Culligan water filter housings are designed for maximum water pressure at 100psi. When the pressure is above 100psi they will crack as shown. This is not covered under any warranty. The filter housing can't be replaced until a PRV is installed or replaced.

Price for the filter housing only includes materials and labor;

Cost to replace the filter housing if someone else installs the PRV

$275.

New PRV Installation

To install a new PRV will be $1,595.

Price includes materials and labor;

(1) 400psi PRV with all connectors needed

(1) Shut-off ball valve

(1) Valve box to protect the PRV and valve

(1) New Culligan filter housing with filter cartridge

Replace existing PRV

To install a new PRV will be $995.

Price includes materials and labor;

(1) 400psi PRV with all connectors needed

(1) New Culligan filter housing with filter cartridge

Inline PRV at the Tankless Unit

Pricing may vary for installing an INLINE PRV.

Several components may fail to water pressures above 90 psi

The least expensive solution is to install a PRV on the cold water supply line to supply the Culligan filter housing. Preventing a surge of high water pressure from the city.

Price will always include materials and labor;

(1) 300psi PRV with all connectors needed

(1) New Culligan filter housing with filter, if needed.

Or any failed component in the filter's cold water supply line.

Price for an inline PRV is $795.

Includes: 300psi PRV with PEX adaptors

New Culligan filter housing and cartridge.

Water Flow Problems at Showers and Faucets

Please reach us at tanklessguru@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

  • Typical single handle shower or faucet cartridges have to be replaced every 8-10 years because of old hot water tanks collect up to 6 lbs. of toxins and sand from our water supply. The sand grands away at the rubber O-ring, located inside each shower cartridge, wearing them to the point they can no longer balance the hot and cold water pressure.
  • Every tankless system, manufactured, has a 1-2 psi pressure drop on the hot water outlet because of the heat exchanger design. This pressure delta prevent a worn cartridge from being able to balance the hot and cold pressure.
